Pillion has elicited strong reactions from viewers and critics alike, ranging from praise to vilification. Since Cruising was released in 1980, culture has changed. Leather/kink, queer, and straight audiences have had sometimes surprising takes on the film.
Pillion: The Movie aims to be a collection of thoughtful and thought-provoking readings, critical analyses, and in-depth explorations. Possible perspectives include queer cinema, actors/acting, film structure, the director, leather/kink community, masculinity, belonging and community, family dynamics, coming out, power dynamics, kink as spirituality, kink practices, sociological, psychological, or archetypal approach, queer, performative, or narratological theory, myth vs. reality, comedy, tragedy, or drama, queer and straight audiences, and others.
Word count: 5000-10,000 (exceptions will be considered). Manuscripts should be in WORD or PDF format and in English. Scholarly essays are welcome. Language should be clear to a general audience.
