SURVIVING TRUMP’S REIGN OF TERROR

These are only my suggestions. They are how I am coping and remaining hopeful. Don whatever you find most helpful for yourself. The least useful thing to do is to isolate and live in fear and anxiety.

DON’T ISOLATE

FIND A SAFE GROUP FOR SUPPORT

BE PROACTIVE: DO THINGS THAT COUNTER ANY FEELINGS OF POWERLESSNESS AND VICTIMIZATION

KEEP YOURSELF INFORMED: FOLLOW HONEST AND ACCURATE NEWS VENUES (DO NOT FOLLOW “MAINSTREAM” MEDIA—ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, OR EVEN MSNBC. THEY ARE ALL CORPORATIONS OWNED BY PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPORTING TRUMP. THEY DO SO BY PRESENTING NEWS DISHONESTLY)

I read Paul Krugman and Robert Reich. They both publishing daily on SUBSTACK and their posts are free. They list media outlets that are trustworthy.

We’re in this for the long haul. I find it helpful to frame it as restoring democracy, not saving democracy. Trump and his billionaire buddies have already broken the system beyond repair. Mass resistance will come, sooner or later. Trump will eventually crash and burn. (There is no time table for this.) When Trump’s MAGA base wakes up to the fact that he has lied to them every step of the way, that he has used them, that he never intended to help them, that Trump’s program has always included exploiting them and then throwing them away—when they realize this vast betrayal their reaction will be ugly and violent. It is a certainty that Trump’s house of cards will eventually collapse.

There are also helpful articles by people who have lived under authoritarian regimes in how to take care of yourself, maintain sanity, and continue to live with hope.
